AR DG sent back to Army

NEW DELHI: Lt Gen Rameshwar Roy, head of the Assam Rifles, has been repatriated to the Army by the Home Ministry, months after allegations of misuse of funds cropped up against him. Lt Gen Roy has been sent back to the Army, and the Home Ministry is in the process of appointing a new Director General of the oldest central paramilitary force, official sources said. The Shillong headquartered Assam Rifles is administratively under the Home Ministry while its operational control lies with the Defence Ministry of India. After conducting an inquiry on the allegations of misuse of funds of Rs 23,000, the Home Ministry had found nothing against Lt Gen Roy and concluded that the complaint was baseless and malafide.  Tripura students score low

AGARTALA: Tripura students have been ranked as one of the poor performers in National Council of Education research and Training (NCERT) ability test for language, mathematics, and environment sciences. A Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) report categorised Tripura with three other states- West Bengal, Gujarat, and Jharkhand where student’s aptitude was found below average in the test conducted over 10,000 students of class II, V and VIII across India. The students were tested in 40 topics in each subject in the schools. The national average performance of students in the three subjects ranged between 40 to 70 per cent, slightly better than the results of a similar NCERT study conducted a few years ago, report stated, adding that worst performance was recorded in mathematics.  Militants arrested

NAGAON (ASSAM): A self-styled commander of nascent militant outfit Black Rhino Commander of Assam (BRCA) Nagaon district unit and two other cadre were arrested along with arms and ammunition from Nagaon town, the police said on Thursday. Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar told reporters here on Friday that ‘commander’ Rajib Banik alias Ajit Phukan on Wednesday night. Based on his statement police arrested two other BRCA members Jitu Bhuyan and Chiranjib Mahanta here. (PTI)
