AGARTALA: Sahid Chowdhury, who was forced to quit from the Left Front cabinet following his alleged relation with Mamun Miah, a hardcore HUJI activist, is all set to be re-inducted in the council of ministers.

Though there is no official communiqué from the government side for possibility of the cabinet, sources claimed, Chowdhury a powerful leader of state’s minority community is expected to take oath at Raj Bhavan here on February 12 next.

According to sources, the decision to re-induct Chowdhury was taken in the recently concluded CPM state conference. However, the party did not declare the decision.

The move assumes significance in view of growing resentment among people belonging to minority community especially in Sonamura subdivision.

According to political analysts, the ruling CPM wants to defuse minority community’s resentment keeping in mind of the next Assembly elections which CPM bigwigs like Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechuri and Manik Sarkar termed very tough and challenging battle of ballots.

As per the norms, the 60-seated Tripura Assembly can have 12 ministers but ‘unfortunately’ one Minister (Sahid Chowdhury) had to quit due to pressure about two one and half years back.

Since then, different Muslim organizations have been demanding inclusion of Chowdhury but the CPM remained silent till of late.

Now sensing the trouble, the ruling party has finally buckled and gave its consent for Chowdhury tobecome 12th minister.

The Congress, so far unaware about the development, is expected to pile heat on the Manik Sarkar led government over the decision.
