Woman killed in Assam

TEZPUR (ASSAM): A woman was killed and buried by villagers for allegedly practising witchcraft in Assam’s Sonitpur district, police said on Saturday.

The woman, identified as Lakshmi Gaur, was killed and buried at Misamari’s Milanpur area on Thursday on suspicion of her practising black magic and witchcraft, police said.

Local police came to know about the incident on Friday and recovered the body on Saturday.

In a similar incident on Friday, a 45-year-old tribal woman, a mother of five children, was burnt alive allegedly for practising witchcraft by some villagers in Jolah village, under Sonari police station, in Sibsagar district. (PTI)
