Panel recommends suspension of poll officials

AIZAWL:The State Election Commission (SEC) has recommended suspension of two officials for violation of model code of conduct for election to the Mizoram civic polls slated for February 23.

The two returning officers (ROs), according to the SEC, while administering nominations candidates for Lungpuitlang and Lunglawn village councils in Lunglei district, violated the guidelines of the Mizoram (Election to the Village Councils) Rules 1974, as well as the Mizoram State Election Commission’s guidelines.

Based on factual reports prepared by the concerned district election officer on the activities of the two ROs, the SEC directed the concerned school education department to order suspension of the ROs, one a headmaster of Government Lungpuitlang Middle School and the other a teacher at Government Liantawna High School, Lunglawn.All the works done by the two officials as ROs remained cancelled, the SEC said and rescheduled last date of filing nominations for the two village councils on February 13 and 14 respectively, while polling date at February 23 remained unchanged.
