SHILLONG: Langsning FC continued its impressive run in the ongoing 2nd Division I-League preliminary round defeating PIFA Colaba FC from Mumbai by 2-1 in the match played at Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi on Tuesday.
Starting aggressively right from the word go, Langsning drew first blood in the 7th minute after its star Korean midfielder Shin Ho Jun scored a stunning goal.
Even though they dominated the proceedings with maximum of the ball possession, Langsning could not capitalize on some of the scoring opportunities that came their way.
After the lemon break, the Shillong side continued with their attacking strategy, finally being rewarded in the 83rd minute of the game when Nigerian striker Yinka Joel Sunday Ayeni scored a goal to give Langsning a 2-0 advantage.
The Mumbai side reduced the margin during injury time to end the match with the score reading 2-1 in favour of Langsning.
With this victory, the Shillong outfit has taken another step closer towards qualifying for the final round of the I-league.
Langsning would take on Mohammedan Sporting FC, Kolkata in their next match on Thursday. A victory against the Kolkata team would ensure the Shillong side a place in the final round.
Both Langsning and Mohammedan have 13 points each from five matches they had played so far. However, the Kolkata side tops the points table, courtesy a better goal average.
