JAC picketing hits office attendance in Ri-Bhoi

NONGPOH: The two-day office picketing called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC), a conglomerate of four frontal NGOs of Ri-Bhoi district (KSU, FKJGP, CORP and HNYF) paralysed the smooth functioning of Government offcies with many of the government employees chosing not to attend to their duties during the picketing hours on both the days.

Most of the offices, both of the Central and State Government, along with all the financial institution located in Ri-Bhoi recorded low attendance.

JAC spokesperson, Eddie G Kharbani, while claiming that the office picketing was successfull and also peaceful, stated that most of the Government employees lended their support to the genuine call of JAC in protesting against the order of the State Government to includes the Marngar Community, which originally hailed from Upper Assam, into the Bhoi Scheduled Tribe list.

He also added that if the Government continued to remain adamant on their demand, then the JAC would be forced to call for stronger agitational programme.

However, Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, Akashdeep, claimed that the overall attendance of the employees on Tuesday was 66.12 per cent while it was over 70 per cent on Wednesday.
