Mumbai: Actress Kareena Kapoor, who has for the first time performed a ‘Mujra’ in her forthcoming film, Agent Vinod, says, she has taken cue from Bollywood veteran Rekha for doing this kind of a number.

The much awaited action-spy-thriller film stars Kareena opposite beau Saif Ali Khan.

In the mujra –‘Dil Mera Muft Ka’ choreographed by Saroj Khan, Kareena will be showing all her ‘nazakat’ and ‘adaayein’.

The 31-year-old turned to Rekha for inspiration, who mesmerized the audience in the early 80s with her mujras like ‘Salaam-e-Ishq Meri Jaan’ (Muqaddar Ka Sikandar), ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’ and ‘In Aankhon Ki Masti’ (Umrao Jaan).

“Rekhaji has been the ultimate performer when it comes to classic Mujra songs but ‘Dil Mera Muft Ka’ is a contemporary take on Mujras and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I have performing it,” Kareena said.

The actress is a perfectionist as she participated in the planning of the entire song, right from the concept to the look and even rehearsed non-stop with ace choreographer Saroj Khan until she got the finer nuances of the dance form.

Says director Sriram Raghavan that the song was required in the film to take the story forward.

“The song has been shot as a mujra because it blended well with the plot of the film. I think songs should take the film forward and not exist just for entertainment. There is a sequence in Karachi, Pakistan, so I thought if we have to do a song sequence then it be a traditional mujra,” Raghavan said. (PTI)
