SHILLONG: Langsning FC’s chances to qualify to the next round of the 2nd Division I League suffered a jolt following a 0-2 defeat against Mohammedan Sporting on Thursday.
To book a place in the final round the Shillong side now will have to win their last match against Vasco SC from Goa to be played on Monday.
Following this victory, Mohammedan Sporting have 16 points from six outings while Langsning SC remain with 13 points from the same number of matches.
Stanley and Sankar Sil scored for the winners in the 7th and 87th minute of the match played at Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi.
Meanwhile, Royal Wahingdoh FC (RWFC) have closer to make it to the final round of the 2nd Division I-League after defeating Gauhati Town Club 2-0 in the match played at Cuttack, Odisha on Thursday.
With this win, RWFC topped the points tally with 14 points from the six matches. The Shillong side will take on Mumbai Kenkre FC on Monday.
The RWFC dominated the proceeding right from the word go. RWFC were awarded a penalty after its striker Beekay Bawar was brought down by Gauhati Town Club goalkeeper inside the penalty area in the 30th minute.
The Shillong side star defender Kareem Omolaja Nurrain made no mistake in giving his side a 1-0 lead.
RWFC continued their dominance after the lemon break took. Jackiechand Singh scored a stunner in the 70th minute.
