Antony visit

Itanagar: Union Defence Minister A K Antony would grace the silver jubilee celebration of Statehood Day in Arunchal Pradesh on February 20, official sources said on Thursday. Antony would arrive a day earlier in this frontier state, the sources said. The minister is likely to convene a meeting with state government and army officials. Antony’s visit bears significance following the oft repeated claims by China on Arunachal. (PTI)

Fire incident

Guwahati: A fire broke out in the third floor of the high security Assam Secretariat in the Dispur area here on Wednesday night, official sources said here on Thursday. The fire broke out in the Water Rescources Department on the third floor of Block B of the secretariat and several files have been destroyed in the blaze, sources said. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.(PTI)

Rail blockade

Guwahati: Train services were affected for nearly six hours following a rail blockade by different traders organisation at Sarupathar in Upper Assam’s Golaghat district on Thursday, official sources said. The traders body under the local unit of the Chamber of Commerce began the blockade at Sarupathar Railway station from 4 a.m today demanding stoppage of all major trains at the station. Among the trains affected were the Up and Down Brahmputra Mail, Janshatabdi Express etc (Agencies)
