Defence minister likely to attend Statehood Day function

Itanagar: Union Minister for Defence A K Antony is likely to arrive in Arunachal Pradesh to attend the 25th statehood day function at Indira Gandhi Park here, beginning on February 20.

The administration has arranged elaborate security arrangement for smooth conduct of the five-day-long “Festival of Arunachal” programme.

Security has been beefed up with police control room functioning 24×7 at the venue along with fire tender, riot police team and bomb disposal squad.

Meanwhile, the police have directed all the exhibition stall owners to install fire extinguishers as precautionary measure. Carrying of lethal weapons have been prohibited and strict action would be taken against those indulging in eve teasing, drunken brawl and creating disturbances during the festival.

Police also appealed to people to inform if any suspicious objects were found or miscreants create ruckus inside the park.

The state government has decided to conduct a mass social service in the entire Capital Complex involving all government servants and the public tomorrow to give a clean and festive look to the capital.

The grand celebration would witness visits by a host of VVIPs, dignitaries and media, which would be participated by tourists, artistes, sportspersons, Army, Air Force and personnel from various organizations.

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) will showcase a mega fashion show organized by the state’s textiles and handicraft department and sponsored by the union textiles ministry’s development commissioner (Handloom) office on February 21 as a part of the celebration. (UNI)
