AGARTALA:Tripura Opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to initiate suo-moto investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to unearth the secrets of re-induction of Sahid Choudhury in the state cabinet.

Mr Choudhury was allegedly involved in criminal acitivites. In a letter, Mr Nath on FRiday said international arms dealer and HuJI activist Mamun Mian, who was arrested by West Bengal police in Agartala in 2008, had confessed his relation with Mr Choudhury.

Mian had alleged that Mr Choudhury facilitated the process of Mamun’s Indian citizenship and permanent resident certificate.

Following sustained pressure from different quarters Mr Choudhury resigned from the cabinet within 37 days, but there was no investigation against him and recently he has been re-inducted in the cabinet, Mr Nath maintained.

He however, pointed out that the ruling Left Front in Tripura was misleading people by saying that the high court had given clean-chit to Mr Choudhury on Mamun case besides, awarding 10-year imprisonment to Mamun.

Being a minister, Mr Choudhury would have access to all sensitive documents, Nath said adding, Security of Tripura and the nation is at stake with the inclusion of such an accused person in the cabinet. (UNI)
