The Nagaland Congress has raised its voice against the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the NSCN(IM) .It has accused them of working together to destabilise the nation . The state Congress has demanded dismissal of the Neiphiu Rao government. What let to this outburst was the meeting between the NPA and NSCN(IM) leaders at Dimapur on January 4. The meeting is seen by the local Congress as proof of a nexus between the two parties which allegedly have a common agenda to foment unrest in the North East, particularly in Nagaland and Manipur. The Nagaland Congress has sent a memorandum to the state governor, Nikhil Kumar. The NPCC alleges that the government at Kohima purposely remained a silent spectator of faction killings between rebel bodies under the NSCN umbrella . The state government had even failed to organise public functions on Republic Day in four district headquarters. The NSCN has an anomalous position. It is still a banned body but it has entered into a ceasefire agreement with the Centre which is now under a Congress –ruled coalition government. Since talks are going on between the Centre and the NSCN(IM), the Dimapur meeting cannot be called unconstitutional and against the national interest. There may however be some truth in the Nagaland Congress allegation that the NPF is trying to draw strength from the NSCN. The NSCN demands are against the Constitution. The NPA government would do well to persuade the NSCN (IH) to abandon its impossible demands instead of joining hands with it in causing trouble.
