SHILLONG: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram was on Sunday inadvertently caught on the wrong foot when news persons questioned him on the activities of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), one of the oldest militant outfits in the State.

The moment scribes questioned the Union Home Minister, Chidambaram drew a blank face and pleadingly looked at Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, who immediately intervened and said that the outfit’s activities were under control.

Chidambaram’s clueless reaction was proof enough that the security review meeting held on Sunday had not dwelt on the issue of the activities of the HNLC, once a dreaded insurgent outfit of the State.
