SHILLONG: Terming it as the right time to boost the tourism sector in the state, Managing Director (MD) of Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) RG Lyngdoh said that the present improved relation with neighbouring countries needs to be cashed in as far as tapping of the tourism potential of the state is concerned.

Addressing a gathering at a workshop on the theme – ‘Tourism for North east and appropriate architecture’ organized by Star Cement in

collaboration with Meghalaya Architecture Forum here on Monday, Lyngdoh said tourism has vast potential but for so long the relationship with neighbouring countries had not been conducive.

“Earlier, we could not go to those countries as a market because of the not so good relationship with them but now the situation is better to invite the market to come to us,” RG Lyngdoh said.

According to Lyngdoh, tourism is the only industry that can revive the north east’s economy, while adding that Rural economy is in shamble.
