SHILLONG: The three-day second edition of the Cherrapunjee Indigenous Festival will be will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on April 12 at the Cherrapunjee Resort in Mawsmai, Sohra.
Priak K Riahtam, secretary of the core committee of the Cherrapunjee Indigenous Festival, in a statement issued here informed that the motto for this year’s festival, which is promoted by the Tourism department, is ‘unveiling the indigenous skills and culture’.
Riahtam also informed that the first Cherrapunjee Indigenous Festival held in 2010 was a successful one and had witnessed increased flow of domestic and international tourists to Cherrapunjee, following which they had decided to hold the second edition of the Festival which they hope would bring international network for enhancing tourism development which is a source of sustainable livelihoods.
The three-day festival would feature famous local artists of Cherrapunjee, indigenous food festivals, exhibitions, cultural programmes and workshops on ‘Save Water, Save the Planet Earth’ and ‘Eco-Tourism Development’.
