NEW DELHI: India and Bangladesh on Friday admitted that several unresolved issues including non-demarcation of a patch of land in Meghalaya sector needs to be attended urgently.

Addressing a joint press conference here after the Home Minister-level meeting here, the Bangladeshi Home Minister Shahara Khatun said issues like non-demarcation of 6.5 km border mainly bordering Meghalaya remain unsettled.

However, she appreciated that a lot more has been done by both the countries to settle problems which are as old as partition of India and birth of Bangladesh.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said that both border demarcation and fencing have been completed in most parts of the Indo-Bangladesh border.

But in some patches fencing or demarcation could not be done due to resistance of locals on both sides. “In such cases we are consulting the local people and trying to settle the issue,” Chidambaram said.
