SHILLONG: ESIC (Employees’ State Insurance Corporation) customers availing ESI facilities are facing difficulties while depositing their monthly Challan in the State Bank of India (SBI) branches. It is learnt that ESI has collaboration with SBI but its customers who deposit more than two Challansare allegedly returned by the Main Branch.
Few customers were returned recently for depositing 3/4 Challans and said that the bank wants every customer should deposit only 1 Challan for their comfort. An ESIC source said that a customer can submit their monthly Challan to any SBI branches in the city. “It is true that some customers who are availing ESI have been returned by the SBI Main Branch in the city. The bank does not take more than 2/3 Challans from each customer and we have received around 5/6 complaints in this regard,” he said. Meanwhile, the AGM, SBI Main Branch said that he has not come across any such complaints. “If there is any problem then they can come to me,” the AGM said.
ESI customers also alleged that other SBI branches are not accepting these Challans. Many customers however said that the problem does not remain if every SBI branches starts accepting the Challans.
