State employees observe strike

SHILLONG: The state employees and workers of various Central Government, bank, insurance, CRU and Central PSU etc. observed a one-day general strike on Tuesday along with the rest of the country.

The strike call was given by Central Trade Unions, All India Federation of Employees and Workers of the country against the anti-people, anti-employees policy and against the economic policy ofthe government . The striking employees and workers of Greater Shillong also held a workers rally at Parking Lot, opposite CTO Building, Swami Vivekananda Road on Tuesday.

Earlier in the morning employees took out a rally that covered important junctions of the city – Police Bazaar, Kachari Point, Swami Vivekananda Road and others.

The protesters shouted slogans and carried banners which urged upon the government for proper implementation of PDS deliveries, price hike of essential commodities, fuels, wages and other issues that are plaguing the commoners on a daily basis.

The protesters took the city streets throughout the day as all government establishments wore a deserted look.
