Guwahati: A leopard, which injured eight villagers in Assam’s Kamrup (Rural) district was killed, while another was trapped and handed over to the forest department in Dibrugarh district on Wednesday, police and wildlife sources said.
Two leopards attacked a villager, Bhagwan Deka, in a field at Madhukuchi village in Rangiya subdivision of Kamrup (Rural) district, sources said. The leopards injured another seven villagers when they rushed out with sticks and sharp weapons, the sources said.
The villagers killed one of the leopards while the other escaped, they said. The injured were taken to the Rangiya Community Health Centre and then to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
Another leopard was trapped by tea garden labourers and handed over to the forest department in Dibrugarh district. The leopard which was caught in the Dikom Tea estate was tranquilised by forest personnel and later released in the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park in neighbouring Tinsukia district, they added.
