SHILLONG: Lack of response from the people of the state in soliciting their queries via ‘call centre’ set by the Opposition NCP a week ago has disappointed Leader of Opposition and NCP legislator Conrad Sangma who said, “The fact that mobile phone has become a necessity, expectation of receiving more calls was very high”.
Lamenting the lack of response, Sangma however expressed his happiness over the maximum response from the people living in the rural areas in this regard.
“I was surprised to know that the response was from the rural lot especially Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills” Sangma told this scribe on Friday.
In a first of its kind exercise, the Opposition NCP opened a ‘call centre’ since last week to enable people to field their questions on a variety of issues and seek answers from the State Government.
Sangma also informed that till date, the total number of calls received was over 20 while the number increased to over 80 through the emails.
“The people have put forth questions pertaining to road connectivity, price rise, traffic jam which we will try to put up before the Government in the upcoming Budget session”, Sangma added.
When asked the reason behind the less response, the Opposition Leader said “It may be because the people are not aware of the contact numbers and the lack of publicity, I think we need more advertisements”, adding that this method will be passed on to the next opposition party.
“This method should be continued in the future in an attempt to reach to the grassroots people”, Sangma added.
