Shillong: Two businessmen hailing from Assam were kidnapped by suspected GNLA cadres on Saturday morning from a market area at Jangrapara close to Tikrikilla under Dadenggiri Civil Sub-Division in West Garo Hills.

The traders who were kidnapped by the militants have rice shops in the market, police said.

They have been identified as Mohammad Jubar Ali and Amit Rabha. According to police, several armed GNLA cadres came to the bazaar at Jangrapara and first fired in the air five rounds at around 10 am on Saturday.

Later, the militants kidnapped the two traders hailing from Lakhimpur district of Assam.

Police have already identified the names of GNLA militants who were involved in the kidnapping.

“We have intensified the operations to track down the kidnappers,” a police official added.
