Magisterial probe ordered into BCPL firing

Dibrugarh: A magisterial inquiry has been ordered on Saturday into Friday’s firing incident at the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) project site at Lepetkata in Dibrugarh district in which one person was killed and three others got injured.

Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Aruna Rajoria has directed Additional Deputy Commissioner PK Rajkhowa to conduct the inquiry and submit the report within a week.

A compensation of Rs 2 lakh would also be paid to the next of kin of the person killed and job provided to one member of the victim’s family in the project.

Meanwhile, the labourers of BCPL ceased work in protest and all work at the project site was suspended. Assam Industry Minister Pradyut Bordoloi and Labour Minister Prithbi Majhi have rushed to the project site to convince the labourers to resume work.

CISF DIG Ajay Kumar said that they have also ordered an inquiry and the security personnel on duty on Friday have been withdrawn from work till the inquiry was over. ”Our inquiry is on and if anybody is found guilty, they will be punished accordingly”, he added.

One Montu Munda was killed in the incident. (PTI)
