Guwahati: A full grown male leopard which was rescued from a pond in the city’s Gotanagar locality, died at the Assam State Zoo on Monday, zoo officials said.

Residents of Gotanagar rescued the injured leopard from a deep pond and handed it over to the forest officials on Sunday.

The leopard was apparently injured in the backbone during the rescue, a forest official said.

People who had gathered at the spot had noticed the animal moving with difficulty, he said.

After being handed over to the forest department, it was provided treatment but the leopard died on Monday morning.
