SHILLONG: The KSU Farmers and Consumer Protection Cell (F&CPC) has demanded the State Government to immediately removed prominent city businessman Ramesh K Bawri from the post of Meghalaya State Consumers Dispute Redressal Forum Acting President.
Emerging from their meeting with Food and Civil Supplies Minister Prof RC Laloo on Tuesday, KSU F&CPC chairman Peter J Lawai claimed that they have briefed the Minister that it is uncalled for to allow a person who himself is a businessman to head this body whose responsibility is to protect the rights of the consumers.“Allowing a businessman to hold the post would definitely create suspicion in the minds of the consumers about the credibility of this statutory body,” Lawai said.As per the Constitution of Redressal Agencies, he said the Government should appoint any retired judge of High Court as the president of consumer dispute redressal forum.
Meanwhile, KSU F&CPC chairman also claimed that the Food and Civil Supply Minister has assured that he would be taking up with the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court to find out if there is any retired judge who would be ready to take up this responsibility.
