Kohima: Expressing happiness over the recent Naga re-conciliation meeting at Dimapur, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has said that there must be a unified Naga voice for the future of the tribal community.

“I fully endorse the resolutions adopted unanimously in the February 29 meeting, called by Forum for Naga Re-conciliation (FNR), the chief minister told a function at Chumukedima near Dimapur.

“If we don’t show such unity, we do not have a future. As long as you cling to your individualism and tribalism, we’ll not survive,” Rio said. He, however, regretted that the Nagas did not recognise each other as one family when their rights and unique history were recognised by the Union government.

“The Naga groups have maintained the cease-fire with security forces, but they do not have truce among themselves. Whose loss and shame is it?” he asked.

The four-point resolution includes a call to all Naga political groups to join the on-going re-conciliation process, cease all forms of hostilities among them and consider historical and political rights of the Nagas as the basis of any settlement to the Naga political conflict through negotiations.

The chief minister said that the concept of high command of national political parties with the remote control in Delhi was alien to the Naga people whose social capital was the strong community bond rooted to tradition. He claimed the rural development schemes had brought about changes. (PTI)
