 SHILLONG: A delegation of legislators and members of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council led by senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Salseng C Marak will meet Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma to demand for creation of a new district in Garo Hills. According to sources, the delegation under the banner of North Garo Hills District Demand Committee to be led by the former Chief Minister, will meet Dr Sangma to demand for creation of North Garo Hills district after the opening day of the Assembly Budget Session on Friday at 2 pm.

Sources informed that the demand for creation of North Garo Hills district has been pending for almost 20 years.

Sources also claimed that the assurance for creation of a new district in Garo Hills was given by none other than UPA Chairperson and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi 20 years back.
