Kerala to set up 10,000 solar homes

Thiruvananthapuram: As a green initiative, Kerala proposes to generate 10 MW of electricity from 10,000 roof mounted grid connected solar photovoltanic power system.

State Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed told newspersons here that the project would be implemented during the financial year 2012-13 with assistance from the Central and State governments.

He said one KW solar unit, which would last for 20 to 25 years, could generate six units of electricity during day time and it could be fed to the nearby distribution line of state electricity board. The government would announce the subsidy and other details in the coming state budget.

He said an international conference on solar homes will be organised here to provide a forum to professionals, policy makers, industry, non-governmenal organisation and others to share knowledge and experience on various aspects of solar electric technology.

Experts from Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, china, singapore, Japan, UAE and Germany would participate in the conference. (UNI)
