NONGSTOIN: Women are blessed with an unique power, said Dr.Jova C.Marak Assistance Professor of NEHU Tura Campus.

Participating in a International Women’s Day programme, organized by the Mother’s Union of Aradonga on Thursday, Dr Marak said a woman is an emblem of beauty.

Nurjehan Marak President of the Mother’s Union Aradonga Unit addressing the function said, “Today women are asserting themselves and claiming their rights. However, this does not hold true for every part of the country.”

“Women, especially in rural areas, are still deprived of basic rights such as education and have no control over their lives,” she said adding “We have made great progress but there is lot more which need to be done.”

Meanwhile, the Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Nongstoin on Thursday observed International Women’s Day at Mawkyrwat which was participated by around hundred women of the locality.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr F Marbaniang, Head department Hindi, St Anthony’s College dwelt on various problems of women including women trafficking, dowry and other issues.
