TURA: The Garo Student’s Union has vehemently objected the demand of the creation of a separate district in Garo Hills by the Social Welfare Association (SWA), an NGO from the plain belt areas surrounding Rajaballa in West Garo Hills.Speaking to The Shillong Times, the President, GSU Central Executive Committee (CEC), Tengsak G Momin said that the SWA had been for the past decade actively demanding the creation of a separate district out of Rajaballa and its surrounding plain belt areas. “The concept of awarding a district is for the sole purpose of the development of a region and not merely to cater to the needs of a particular community” said Momin and added that the SWA seeked only to divided Garo Hills on communal lines. The Achik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO) has also slammed the demands of the SWA terming it as a provocation on communal lines.
