MUA coalition partner withdraws 48-hr deadline

SHILLONG: Just a day after issuing a 48-hour deadline to the State Government to announce creation of two more districts in Khasi Hills, the UDP on Tuesday made a U-turn and decided to withdraw the deadline issued to the Dr Mukul Sangma-led Government.
The UDP decided to withdraw their deadline during a meeting of the MUA coalition partners on Tuesday night.
What is surprising is that the UDP made the U-turn just hours after submitting a letter to Dr Sangma through its president Dr Donkupar Roy which served a 48-hour deadline to announce creation of two additional districts in Khasi Hills.
The UDP decided to withdraw the deadline following an assurance from the Chief Minister that more districts would be created in the State in addition to the three new districts announced on Friday last.
Emerging out of the meeting, Dr Roy said, “The question of the 48-hour deadline does not arise anymore as the issue has been resolved well within the deadline.”
Dr Sangma, on his part, refused to divulge the names of the new districts which are likely to be created. He only stated that the announcement would be made in a few days.
