SHILLONG: The State Cabinet has approved the draft Bill for constituting the Meghalaya State Finance Commission.
Announcing this here on Monday after a Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said the State Finance Commission, which would be constituted in line with the Finance Commission of India, will review the financial position of the traditional bodies, municipalities and district councils.
The Commission would determine allocation of resources, taxes, duties, tolls, fees, grants-in-aid from the consolidated fund of the State, Dr Sangma said.
The Chief Minister said the Commission would also have the task of recommending measures to improve the fiscal health of the State.
Municipal Amendment Bill: The State Cabinet has also approved the Meghalaya Municipal Amendment Bill, 2012.
Informing this after the Cabinet meeting, the Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said the department proposed the amendment with an aim to streamline accounting system within the department.
The amendment aims at bringing in more transparency and accountability within accounting institutions falling under the urban affairs department, she added.
