Indore: Army Recruiting Office has decided not to consider the candidates who have tattoos on any part of the body, an official said here on Wednesday.

Tattoos are often made with used needles without sterilisation, which poses the risk of HIV infection. This was the reason for the newly-introduced bar against tattoos, according to the official. Exception would be made only for tattoos of birth name or a religious symbol.

“Army has decided in principle that barring name and religious symbol on lower part of the arm (between wrist and elbow), candidates having tattoo on any other part of the body are not eligible for enrolment,” Colonel G S Daveta, Director Recruitment, Mhow Area, said at a press conference here on Wednesday. Tattoos of name/religious symbol had been exempted for now, but even they would attract this rule in future, Daveta said. Army Recruiting Office is organising a recruitment drive for various posts at Mhow near here from April 25 to April 30 for youths from Ujjain and Indore divisions, Colonel Daveta said.

There are around 300 vacancies for posts such as havildar, soldier, tradesman and clerk. (PTI)
