SHILLONG: The NCP is contemplating to move a privilege motion against PWD Minister HDR Lyngdoh for displaying the wrong emotion in the House on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when the PWD Minister was severely criticized by Rongchugiri legislator James K Sangma (NCP) and the former vented his ire by banging the desk.

Actually Sangma, while asking a supplementary question, wanted information on whether there was any penalty clause for delay in the construction of the Kurila Bridge.

To this, the PWD Minister stated that he required a fresh notice for the supplementary question posed by James Sangma.

The Ronchugiri NCP legislator, however, was not satisfied and shot back at Lyngdoh, saying that the supplementary question was related to the main question raised earlier.

In retaliation, the PWD Minister stood up and banged the table, saying, “I have sought for notice since the information is not available with me”.

Leader of Opposition Conrad K Sangma also took strong exception to the unruly behavior of the PWD Minister.

“What is happening to this House; journalist gets beaten, the Minister loses his cool,” Conrad said in his reaction.

This however led to an exchange of words between the Sangma brothers and Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong who also joined in support of Lyngdoh.

Tynsong, argued that the Sangma brothers cannot shout in the House and even went to the extent of asking the Opposition Leader to study the rules and procedures of the conduct and business in the House.

Conrad, however, took a dig at Tynsong, asking him not to worry since Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma would definitely give him a ticket to contest the next election, even as he alleged that the Forest and Environment Minister was behaving as if he had been appointed the Parliamentary Affairs Minister.

Order was restored in the House after some time.
