Rs 138 cr security package for Tirap, Changlang

ITANAGAR: The Centre has announced a Rs 138 crore security package for troubled Tirap and Changlang districts for strengthening the police forces to counter insurgent activities, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen (Retd) J J Singh said here on Thursday.

“The package will not only provide for exhaustive strengthening of the existing police set-up but also for recruitment of 1,948 youth in the civil police from these two districts,” the governor said in his address to the budget session of the assembly which began here Thursday morning.

He said, the single step would have an exemplary turn-around effect on the insurgency situation in these two districts.

The governor while referring to the law and order scenario said that though there was a clear and tangible fall in the activities of insurgents in Tirap and Changlang districts, there was an abrupt increase in the number of bandh calls given by various organizations in the capital complex region.
