Kathmandu: Nepal Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai today sacked Minister for Labour and Transport Management, Sarita Giri, for her alleged links with the controversial manpower agencies.

Giri, the president of Sadbhawana Party-Anandidevi, was removed after she failed to produce satisfactory explanation over the transfer of Director General of Department of Foreign Employment, Purna Chandra Bhattarai, according to sources close to the Prime Minister.

The Minister had ordered transfer of DG of the Department of Foreign Employment after he refused to issue license to three new manpower agencies at the recommendation of the Minister.

Prime Minister Bhattarai is learnt to have issued strong directives not to issue new licenses to the manpower agencies as the number of existing manpower agencies – around 900 – is already sufficient. Giri had refused to resign even after Prime Minister’s asked her to.

Meanwhile, Giri organised a press conference and alleged that Purna Chandra Bhattarai was involved in irregularities.

Prime Minister also appointed Mathabir Singh Thapa, president of Rastriya Janamukti Party, a fringe party, as the new Minister in place of Giri. (PTI)
