SHILLONG: After the successful launch of buses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission (JNNURM) in its first phase, the State government is looking forward to launch the second lot of buses shortly.

“50 remaining SPTS buses would hit the city roads later this year,” said P Naik, Principal Secretary to Urban Affairs Department on Saturday.

Talking to The Shillong Times, Naik said the next lot of buses would reach the state before June.

It may be mentioned that presently fifty SPTS buses are catering to the needs of the people of Shillong.

According to Naik, the introduction of 50 buses in Shillong would reduce traffic congestion in the city further.

The Central government has sanctioned 120 buses for the State under the JNNURM.

The ten bigger buses is also expected to be brought to the state within this month. He also informed that the Government would also introduce more maxi taxis in the city to cover more areas of the city.
