W’nagar police nabs GNLA recruiting agent, frees 3 young boys

TURA: Williamnagar police in East Garo Hills district have arrested the kingpin involved in recruiting young boys to join the GNLA and successfully rescued three teenagers who were being taken to enroll in the banned organisation.

Acting on intelligence inputs about the possible arrival of a man with three young boys from different parts of the state, police laid a trap and arrested Sanjib M Sangma (22 yrs) who was in the process of taking across Simsang river the three boys to join the outfit. Among the three potential recruits, two hail from Tura own.

The three young boys who were rescued are Sengjrang G Momin (17), Chanchang R Marak (16), and Chirikrak A Sangma (17).

Meanwhile, two GNLA militants on Saturday surrendered before BSF DIG Brigadier (Retd) V K Chand at a simple ceremony in its campus in Dobasipara.

The two militants, who ran away from their camp in Durama hills of East Garo Hills, did not deposit any arms.

The duo have been identified as Letmin Ch Momin alias Khanam Ch Momin and Balsrang Marak alias Matnang Ch Marak. Both hailed from Chokpot area of South Garo Hills.

The two had joined the outfit in 2011 and undergone training at Sabogre and Rongchakgre under Williamnagar police station.
