NONGPOH: Firing salvo at Umroi legislator Stanley Wiss Rymbai, FKJGP North Khasi Hills President Eddie G Kharbani on Saturday accused Rymbai of using money power to win the assembly bye election in 2009 following the death of former chief minister E K Mawlong.

Kharbani was speaking at a public meeting organized by outgoing KSU North Khasi Hills District and Joint Action Committee (JAC) president Donkupar Sumer at Umsning about 25 kilometers from here.

The FKJGP president appealed to the people to give Sumer a chance for representing them in the floor of the house so that the grievances of the people of Ri Bhoi district is properly ventilated.

Announcing his resignation as president of KSU North Khasi Hills and JAC Chairman, Sumer said that his tenure of 15 years as a student leader in various posts has come with many up and downs but he has strongly stood against the test of time when police raided his house for arresting him during the agitational programme of MBoSE in 2005 and Uranium Mining in 2009 among several others.

The outgoing KSU leader said that he had taken up several issues with the then chief minister D.D. Lapang for the development and betterment of Ri Bhoi District but Lapang did not give heed to any of the issues.

On whether he would join politics and contest the next assembly election from Umsning constituency, Sumer said, “I want to serve the people in a bigger way so as to be able to address the grievances of the people of Umsning constituency and the whole district of Ri Bhoi in an appropriate platform—the floor of the house.”Others who spoke included David Kharnaior, General Secretary CORP, Central Body, F. Lyngdoh, Mawsyntai ex rangbah shnong, Sumar Swer, President Ka Lynti Jam Welfare & Development Association while Rocky Kylla, President RBYF Umsning Circle presided over the meeting.
