Agartala: The Tripura government will find out the reason of poor collection of blood in towns and urban areas despite attaining the top position in voluntary blood donation.

Principal Secretary, Health, Sudip Roy said in a review meeting last Friday Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty had expressed displeasure over only 34 per cent blood collection from urban areas and ordered finding out the reason.

He pointed out that the health department had targeted to collect at least 10 per cent more than the total demand of blood from voluntary donation this year besides, initiative to increase the collection in urban pockets.

Roy said, “The state acquires 97 per cent blood requirement from blood donation which has so far come up as the highest achievement in the country. But the state has exhibited a very surprising trend as 63 per cent of blood donation has been coming from the rural areas.”

The government has asked private healthcare institutions to collect blood on their own if they fail to set up individual blood banks while the government would extend the required facilities of testing, screening and preserving blood if necessary. (UNI)
