Guwahati: The entire Opposition in Assam on Tuesday walked out of the Assembly following alleged unparliamentary remarks by the Speaker.

Trouble started after AIUDF members stormed the well of the House expressing dissatisfaction over a reply by Irrigation Minister Ardhendu Kumar Dey to questions on flood control and release of funds for erosion affected families.

Speaker Pranab Gogoi made some remarks while trying to calm the agitating AIUDF members which was not heard in the din.

While the ruling Congress members opposed conduct of the opposition, the AIUDF MLAs, led by their leader Sirajuddin Ajmal, staged a walk out.

Immediately, the MLAs of the other opposition parties, Bharatiya Janata Party and the Asom Gana Parishad also left the house expressing support to the AIUDF legislators.

Later talking to reporters, Ajmal announced that his party will henceforth boycott proceedings of the House till the Speaker withdraws his remarks.

AGP leader Bhupen Roy also demanded that Gogoi withdraw his comment. (PTI)
