ULFA claims responsibility for grenade attack

Guwahati: The anti-talk faction of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) on Wednesday claimed responsibility for the grenade attack at a police station in Assam’s Sibsagar district ahead of the outfit’s foundation day on April 7.In an email to media houses ULFA central publicity committee member Joy Asom said the attack lst night was in protest against killing of its members by the police.He alleged that the police were torturing innocent civilians to extract information about ULFA.Militants had last night lobbed a grenade and damaged a portion of Demow police station in Sibsagar. However, none was injured and the militants escaped after blasting the grenade. (PTI)

ULFA demands money from FCI

North Lakhimpur : Mar 28 (PTI) The Food Corporation of India’s office in Lakhimpur district has allegedly received an extortion demand from the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), police said today. Officials, however, did not disclose the amount demanded by the ultras. The extortion demand was made over phone earlier this week and an FIR has been lodged in this regard, officer-in- charge of North Lakhimpur police station Dimbeswar Roy said. (PTI)

Mizoram to buy back Rs 35 cr loan

Mumbai: TheRBI said the Mizoram government plans to buy back state development loans (SDLs) worth Rs 35 crore in this financial year (2011-12) and the purchases will be carried out by the banking regulator. “The state government of Mizoram proposes to buyback SDLs for an aggregate amount of Rs 35 crore during 2011-12,” the RBI said in a notification. (PTI)

2 handgrenades recovered

Imphal:Two handgrenades were found at the gate of the residence of the Block Developement Officer of Moirang in Bishenpur district on Tuesday night, official sources said. (PTI)
