Eight school kids injured in accident
Lucknow: Eight school children and a staff member were injured here Tuesday when the speeding school van carrying them overturned as the driver lost control, police said. Three girls were injured seriously. The van was carrying a total of 23 students and the school employee. The incident occurred near the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences area and the bus belonged to SK Public School. According to police, the accident occurred when the driver turned back to ask the children not to make noise. Passers-by rescued the trapped school children and took them to a nearby medical facility. Angry parents accused the school management of overcrowding the vehicle and not keeping trained drivers. Police officials said they would probe how a van that could hardly hold eight children kids was packed with 23 students plus a staff member. (IANS)
Four cops injured in attack by villagers
Etawah (UP): Four policemen were today injured and their jeep damaged when residents of a village indulged in brick-batting after they arrived there to probe a case. A police team comprising a sub-Inspector and three constables had gone to Banamai village in Bharthana area in connection with a case when the villagers indulged in brick-batting, a police official said. On March 22, Dilip (22) and Bhuri Devi (18) of the same village had eloped and later approached a local court fearing attack on them by their relatives. The court directed the villagers to allow them to live together but yesterday the girl’s family pressurised the boy’s relatives to tell them about the couple’s whereabouts. Following the development, the youth’s side informed the police and the team went to the village to probe into the matter, the official said. Alleging that police took money from the boy’s family, the girl’s family attacked the team. A case has been lodged against members of the girl’s family, police said. (PTI)
44-yr-old man commits suicide
Mumbai: A 44-year-old physically challenged man, a Sales Tax officer, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence at Parel, police said. Jayant Patil took this extreme step yesterday. No suicide note was found. A case of accidental death has been registered by police. (UNI)
