Demand for separate Garo state

TURA: Several organizations belonging to student and social groups of Garo Hills including the Garo National Council are jointly calling for a public procession in demand for a separate Garo state in Tura, on Friday.

The Garo Hills State Movement Committee comprising members from the Tura Government College Students’ Union, the Garo National Council political party, and members of other student bodies, has decided to spearhead the movement for a separate state beginning with the rally in Tura on Friday.

The public rally will commence from 11 AM at Chandmari field, moving through the DC office, Tura bazaar, Hawakhana and Tetengkol culminating in College field.

After the rally the leaders of the rally will submit a reminder to the State Government of their demands with a copy to the Prime Minister’s Office, it was informed.

The state movement committee has as its chairman Nikman Ch Marak who happens to be the general secretary of Tura Govt College Students’ Union, Balkarin Marak of TGCSU as co-chairman, GNC’s Henising Sangma as finance secretary, among others. The other delegates also include members of the All Students’ Welfare Association from Garo Hills.
