Shillong: The State Government has constituted an independent technical committee to screen the revised estimates for construction of the Meghalaya House at Russel Street, Kolkata.

The Kolkata Meghalaya House had been initially sanctioned at an amount of Rs 24 crore but revised estimates later projected that an additional income of Rs 26 crore was poured into the construction making it a Rs 50-crore project.

It may be mentioned that the project has been delayed on several occasions which has further escalated the cost of the project which was initiated in October 2006.

As per the official notification, the independent technical committee is headed by the Chief Engineer of the Water Resources department as the chairman besides five other members.

The notification added that committee will examine the revised estimates for the Meghalaya House and if required it would also make a field visit to the site and then submit its report to the Government on whether the revised estimate is justified.

The report of the committee should be submitted positively within March, the notification added.
