Assam Govt to probe fake FI cards racket

 Guwahati: Assam government has constituted a one-man commission of inquiry commission headed by Justice S K Kar, a retired judge of Gauhati High Court, to probe into the fake ration (family identity) cards rackets that is allegedly thriving in the state.

The commission will inquire into the matter of circulation of a large number of bogus FI cards in the state that has resulted in siphoning off crores of rupees from the state exchequer by unscrupulous traders in collusion with government officials from the state Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department.

The anomaly was detected by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Assembly that has also made some recommendations to stem the leakage in the PDS system. The probe panel has been given six months time from March 27 o submit its report.
