Tura polytechnic students’ union suspend agitation

 TURA: The Tura Polytechnic Students Union which was agitating for better amenities since the last few weeks has decided to suspend their ongoing strike to give time to the government to look into their demands.

The union leaders informed that a letter of assurance was given to them from the Director of Higher and Technical Education, Shillong seeking three months time to fulfill some of their most important demands.

The state government has reportedly asked for three months time beginning from the start of the first quarter of the next financial year-April-May-June to look into their problems.

“After receiving the letter of assurance we have decided to suspend the stir for three months,” Flixstar Mante B Sangma Assistant General Secretary of the union said. He also informed that if the government fails to keep its word then the union will intensify the agitation with the support of all other NGOs from Garo Hills including the Garo Students Union.

The polytechnic students union have demanded that better developmental package be given to the technical institute and ensure their diplomas get recognized when it comes to job security.
