NONGSTOIN: The clean politics campaign in Nongstoin on Monday marked the beginning of a ‘Revolution’ to achieve better governance in West Khasi Hills and the state as a whole, Basaiawmoit claimed while adding “It is high time for the people to wake up to reality and realize the danger that awaits us.

It was witnessed that church leaders like Rev Victor Lyngdoh Bishop of Nongstoin Diocese, RevTTDiengdoh, Fr.Richard Iawphniaw and Rev.K.Pyrtuh also delivered a message to spread the clean politics campaign and extended their support to legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit.

Nongkrem MLA, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit brushed aside the majority’s preconception about politics stating that it is not a ‘dirty game’ or an easy way to make money.

Making this statement before a huge crowd at Nongstoin here on Monday, Basaiawmoit said people of the State have been brained washed into believing that politics is a bad thing which involves multitude corruption and other malpractices.

Because of the lukewarm attitude of the people towards politics, bad people tend to take advantage by entering into politics.

“It is for this reason that we find that politics is so corrupt in our State”, Basaiawmoit said, adding that the bad governance has affected the poor people who from time to time are becoming more and more vulnerable to such problems.

Terming politics as ‘Sacred’, the MLA said “Politics means power and authority which goes into shaping the human behaviour, decision and policy making, implementation of power and others”.

“I am already a legislator and I am not using this campaign to gain political mileage,” Basaiawmoit said.

His campaign is to “reclaim democracy, reject corruption and redeem politics.”
