Officers’ property to be confiscated

Bhopal: In a new initiative against corruption, the empowered committee, set up under the Madhya Pradesh Special Courts Act, has declared that properties worth Rs 5.42 crore accumulated by five officers through unfair means, are prima facie fit for confiscation. The officers whose disproportionate assets have been found worth confiscation include Brijesh Rai, former Superintending Engineer, Madhya Pradesh Electricity Baord, Rajgarh (Rs98 lakh), Teofil Tigga, Assistant Protocol Officer, General Administration Department (Rs 68 lakh), Chitrasen Bisen, contractual Institution Manager, Ukwa, Balaghat (Rs1.14 crore), Ramendra alias Raman Dhuldhoye, Assistant grade-3, Transport Office, Indore (Rs1.17) and M P Chaturvedi, former Superintending Engineer, Bansagar Project, Rewa (Rs1.45 crore). The Madhya Pradesh Special Courts Act-2011, which got the assent of President Pratibha Patil only in January this year, has been enforced for prompt hearing of cases pertaining to corruption and confiscation of disproportionate assets acquired illegally. Constitution of special courts, presiding officers’ appointment and posting of special prosecutors have already been done. (UNI)
