Agartala: Even after repeated commitment of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to refer the controversial death case of Papai Saha, 25, to CBI, the Tripura government has failed to file its stand in the Gauhati High Court, Agartala bench.

The HC had sought the state government’s view over the appeal of the victim’s family to refer the case to CBI for investigation instead of state CID. Papai was allegedly shot dead by Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans during a protest rally of Congress party in July 11 last. Papai’s mother Shukla Saha in a petition stated that the police had intended to turn the investigation to save the main culprits and she wanted to refer the case to CBI. The Chief Minister informed the state assembly on two separate occasions in last budget session that the state government has no objection for CBI inquiry into the incident. However, he Advocate General Dipak Kunda stated that the state government has not yet decided to refer the case to CBI and has sought time. The State had again sought time to clear its stand on the issue, on Tuesday. (UNI)
