Ban against oil exploration

Imphal: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has resolved to ban the Hyderabad based company- Alpha Geo Private Limited from any form of oil exploration works and seismic survey in Tamenglong district with immediate effect.

“The decision is based on the standing principles of the Naga students that, any development should be honorable, acceptable and beneficial to the Naga people.

Neither there has been any environmental impact assessment in the process,” the ANSAM said on Thursday.

The Naga students’ body also resolved that it will not allow to implement the recent policy of the State Government to empower the not mandated Member of District Council (MDC) to divert 25% percent of the MGNREGS funds from the accounts of the villages as the Naga people’s declared MDC as ‘null and void’ on July 1, 2010.

“This attempt is to fill the coffer of few individuals by snatching away from the needy,” it added. The Naga students’ body then appeals the concerned authorities to monitor closely so as to avoid from unwanted development. “The Association shall react in any form as an when the authority failed to,” it cautions.
